Providence by Jamie McGuire - Review

Look!  I know I'm late, but I'm totally on the Providence bandwagon.  

I read Beautiful Disaster first and fell in love with Jamie McGuire's writing.  Actually, I blame her and Travis for my unhealthy addiction to all things books and boys.  They both sent me on this downward spiral towards an obsession over fictional characters.  And I thank them for that.

I knew about her Providence trilogy and totally judged it by it's cover.  I remember looking for something to fill the void I had after finishing Beautiful Disaster.  I was looking for other books that she wrote and found Providence.  It didn't look like something I would be interested in.  So I skipped it and moved onto other books.  I'm not too into the paranormal genre.  I like reading about things that are real.  Real love and real pain.  Not things that go bump in the night.  I was sure that I wasn't going to be interested in this story.

So while I was being all judgey (is that even a real word?) about the book cover.  I was totally missing out!  On what you ask?

Jared Ryel.

I mean, even reading his name gets me all hot and bothered! 

The Providence trilogy was $2.99 on Amazon a while back.  I scooped it up as soon as I found out about it, because well, you know me!  I can't pass up a deal.  I bought it because it was Jamie McGuire, and I'm a total fan girl.  I figured that I would eventually read it while I wait for Walking Disaster to come out.  I've had the trilogy on my Kindle since December and I finally found the time to start reading it this week.

I'm a little pissed that I didn't start this sooner, but it worked out because I actually have some time to soak in all things Providence.

This book has real love and real pain.  The story may be a paranormal romance, but for someone like me who doesn't read a lot of that genre, I loved it.  The story made me more curious about what I've been missing out on by ignoring this whole genre!

I lost sleep because I couldn't put it down.  Jared is so mysterious and you find yourself turning pages like a maniac just so you can find out more about him.  The love he is capable of is a love that we all hope and pray for.

You feel for Nina, she lost her father who she loved very much.  He was an amazing man and now she has to try and live her life without him.  She tries to have a normal college experience with her friends but a wrench is thrown into those plans.  She finds out her father was not who she though he was and now there's this guy who she is drawn to, but can't figure out what his deal is.

This story has suspense, romance, drama and even a love triangle where you didn't know who you wanted to lose out on because you love all the characters involved.

Jamie McGuire's writing is so emotional, I could actually feel my heart breaking during some parts of the book.  You feel the character's pain and you so want everything to feel better, not only for their sake, but for your sanity too.

I definitely recommend Providence.  Especially if you're like me and you like to switch it up a bit.  I'm so happy it's a trilogy because when I finished Providence, I wanted more!  I'm currently reading the second book Requiem and I'm likely to finish it by the end of the day.  I will keep you posted!
